Donald Trump almost one step away from becoming President of the United States

President Donald Trump is a sentence many of us never thought we’d say but it seems that the chances of that being reality are not as low as they used to be. In fact, if the latest news from the US is anything to go by, Americans are in for a very nerve-racking election.

Overnight, the remaining Republican candidate won the amount of seats he needs to become the official nominee for the 2016 US election. What this means is that for the first time in his many repeated attempts to be the president of America, Donald Trump is so very close.

Trump was put over the top in the Associated Press delegate count on Thursday by a small number of the party’s unbound delegates who told the AP they would support him at the national convention in July.

It takes 1237 delegates to win the Republican nomination and Trump has reached 1,238.

It was first laughed off as a ludicrous campaign by a billionaire buffoon but surprisingly Trump has fought off all 16 other Republican contenders.

Trump will not formally accept the party’s nomination until the delegates cast their votes on the convention floor in July.

Speaking at a news conference in Bismarck, North Dakota, Trump poked fun at Hillary Clinton’s inability to get delegates as quickly as he had.

“Here I am watching Hillary fight and she can’t close the deal,” Trump said.

Trump is up against historically high unfavourability ratings and faces immense challenges as he looks to broaden his appeal across the currently Democratic-siding USA.

Tell us, do you think Trump will win the election? Who will?

  1. On the surface he seem like another Adolf Hitler, but his support is not universal across the US. If he becomes President there may be problems when his supporters are left feeling disappointed. He has given the impression that the US has a problem with Hispanics and Muslims but this is more perception than fact, the real problem is far further up the food chain and that is Bernie Sanders territory. Sanders is a threat to the establishment and they would rather kill him that allow him to be President. He could revive the American dream and that would be a threat to the 1%. As President Trump may well become serious as he’s not educated in what he’s proposing. He would need help to steer the ship and would need to back-peddle on most things he’s said and there could be a lot of angry people in the USA. The media would have a field day.

Interesting times, indeed! The final election will prove who the people in US want as president. Like another Hitler, nah! More like a smart business-politician with nous, talking the language of the people who are supporting him. I think he will win and when he does, prepare for the unexpected, but don’t worry, it will not be doomsday.
Australian voter who are fed up with the big three political sides, the Coalition, Labor and the Greens, are probably considering the smaller party candidates such as ALA, Christian Democratic (CDP) or the Xenophon party or the independents.

Well it should surprise no one we are heading down the same path ! Once education is less and the poor grow in large numbers and people loose hope you foster a climate for the nutters too win. Having healthy educated people in all groups from wealthy down though middle and lower classes and people feeling they have a chance is the best. Once people loose hope for a better life for children and grandchildren what have they got too loose? Let them eat cake!

  4. Trump will probably be president after the Obama administration and the hopeless mess it has made. While Trump seems to be a wild cannon, he’ll probably be surrounded with intelligent people who can carry him with advice and hopefully fix up some of the things that Obama has let slip.
US overseas policy is one area that needs to be adjusted with the US looking after itself and not trying to rule everyone on the planet. It also needs to do something about the number of Moslems entering the country and of course, the open borders at the south through which FBI reports suggest droves of Moslem jihadists are entering.

  5. Would have preferred Rubio but he’s still a better choice the Bernie and the wicked witch and loads better than the narcissist in power now who is more obsessed with toilet usage and potential speech-making when he joins the unemployed.

God save us all, if Trump become President of this great land, as a new citizen I am very worried if he does makes it. I can only hope that the American people are smarter than the media portrait.

  7. Mike Harris

I am amazed at what is being said by a lot of you. The man has been a success in almost everything he has done yet you all belittle him. What has the Obama done for America, Clinton is being looked at by the FBI over her unprotected emails that might have been the reason those troops got killed, I remember Reagan a second rate actor was also belittled by people, yet he turned out to be a very successful president. Mr Trump is saying what a lot of people believe should be done, the rest are pussy footing around the problems and have lost out. The reference to Hitler a man who had millions killed applied to Mr Trump I find appalling, wake up and give the people of America a chance to choose their next leader.

All I can say is…. God help Ametica and the rest of the world. DT is a buffoon!

  9. Insane it is that that plonker should have the gall to put himself in the running, does money talk? What a waste of breath he is OMG God save America

  10. Thank you Mike Harris, you pretty well summed it up. Mr.Trump???????but no comparison to Hitler, where did that come from? No Clinton for sure, too much blood on her hands. So we’re back to Trump? Who knows until Election Day, we do have 2 minor parties to choose from also. I just hope God helps us all.
