Denise Drysdale roasts Bill Shorten

One of the big social media takeaways from the last Federal Election was that many believe that Opposition Leader Bill Shorten doesn’t know how to eat a sausage.

Now, many believe that he can’t cook them either.  After appearing in the popular cooking segment on Network Ten’s Studio Ten entitled Ding Dong Does Dinner, the Opposition Leader would rather face the grilling he get’s in parliament then the roasting comedian Denise Drysdale gave him.

Denise decided that Mr Shorten was going to make up for his “UnAustralian” sausage eating techniques by making them. At one stage when Mr Shorten tried to mix the sausage mince with a spoon to which Denise ripped away and yelled, “No, with your hands, you goose!”  As Mr Shorten timidly mixed the ingredients, Denise instructed, “Come on, get into it, Bill. Pretend it’s Malcolm.” Bill gave the mince a playful punch before saying “He would have different ingredients, wouldn’t he? A little more truffle”.

The jokes flew fast and furious and got a little risque. Mr Shorten was lost for words at one point saying, “I cannot believe the advice I just got in my earpiece just then” he said while trying to get the sausage casing on the machine, “It has got to go all the way on, otherwise you’ll have an accident.”

A very funny segment that showed Bill Shorten in a new light and also highlighted why Denise “Ding Dong” Drysdale is still one of Australia’s sharpest wits and one of TV’s greatest personalities.

What did you think of the segment?  Did you think it helped or hurt Bill Shorten’s image?  How great is Denise?
