In case you didn’t know, January 17 was Michelle Obama’s 53rd birthday and in celebration of that special day her husband, United States president Barack Obama, posted a gushing tribute to her on social media.

“To the girl from the South Side who took on a role she didn’t ask for and made it her own: Happy Birthday, Michelle,” he wrote alongside an adorable pic of the two on a golf cart. “I love you.”

It’s a pretty adorable post, especially after Obama delivered his final speech as president and made a point of thanking Michelle for her constant support.

“Michelle, for the past 25 years you’ve been not only my wife and mother of my children, but my best friend,” he said, making the point he became the First Lady and made the position her own, “with grace and grit and style and good humour”.

“You made the White House a place that belongs to everybody, and a new generation sets its sights higher because it has you as a role model. You’ve made me proud. You’ve made the country proud,” the president said.

It’s just another occasion where the president has spoken lovingly about his first lady.

That image though? Well, it has been pulled from the archive and shows the couple riding in a golf cart following their first inaugural ball in Washington DC on January 20, 2009.

Have you received a touching birthday message from a loved one? How did it make you feel?

  1. In the above, I don’t recall him becoming the First Lady lol.

I want to be a proof reader for Starts at Sixty. Absolutely sure they don’t have one! Sometimes the grammar, punctuation and spelling is so bad, it’s difficult to understand the meaning that is being portrayed. Quite annoying !

  2. Laila Andre

Barack Obama is a good man. Michelle is a really wonderful and elegant lady. Together they make a wonderful team. You can see when ever they are together the love and warmth they have for each other.

  3. Sue Mitchell

Whenever you see Barack & Michelle, they’re always holding hands & smiling at each other. From what I’ve seen so far of Donald Trump, he walks ahead of his wife, only seen him hold her hand once & that seemed to be a last minute gesture & as he hardly smiles anyway, will we ever see him smile & kiss her all the time like the Obamas do? I don’t think so!!!! Good luck America, you’re going to need it.

    • That’s because she’s only a piece of meat to him. That’s what all women are, to him.

  4. They are a great couple, no doubt. But I had such high hopes for him as president but it was just business as usual, warmongering, whitewashing the facts, the poor remain brutally poor and unsupported. I know someone there who desperately needs a spinal surgery but because she’s been unemployed for a long while for health reasons, she has no insurance. And her house wouldn’t cover the cost (around $1 million.) And Obamacare was only moderately helpful. And now it’s being dismantled. Still, they are a match made in heaven. Michelle is fantastic.

  5. Diandra

Look up…. Sean Hannity, Obama farewell can’t hide a disastrous legacy.

Good luck with your choice Diandra. Impeachment of Trump not too far away. Conflict of interest huge.
