70’s Aussie rock chick Carol Lloyd has died

If you were a fan of rock ‘n’ roll back in the ’70s then no doubt you remember the voice of Carol Lloyd.

Sadly, the lead singer of the bands Railroad Gin and the Carol Lloyd Band has died in Brisbane after a long battle with a terminal lung disease.

A post on a fan page dedicated to Lloyd and Railroad Gin confirmed the beloved rock singer passed away in a Brisbane hospital today.

She was the lead singer of Railroad Gin for seven years, before leaving and forming her own band, the Carol Lloyd Band.

Lloyd was famous for being Australia’s first rock chick, dubbed Australia’s ‘Wild Woman of Rock’.

Among her hit songs was the 1974 hit A Matter of Time.

Her career was dogged by questions about sexuality and drug addiction, but she overcame all odds to continue a decades long successful career.

To many she’s seen as the forerunner to leading Aussie rock chicks including the Divinyls’ Chrissy Amphlett.

She also toured with a number of performers including AC/DC and Suzie Quatro.

In 2013 she was diagnosed with interstitial pulmonary fibrosis and given months to live.

However, she bounced back and fought on for several more years.

Last year a concert,Goodbye Ruby Tuesday,  was held in her honour at the Queensland Performing Arts Centre, featuring performances by Katie Noonan and Troy Cassar-Daley.

She was an open advocate for LGBT rights and regularly spoke out about experiences with her sexuality, drug addiction and in later years, her health battles.
