Love a beef stir fry but don’t want too much fuss? This quick, easy and very tasty beef and broccoli stir fry recipe is low in fat but high in flavour!

You’ll love its taste so much, you’ll want to make it all the time.


  • 3 tablespoons cornstarch
  • 1cup water
  • 2 tablespoons water
  • 1teaspoon garlic powder
  • 500 boneless steak, cut into thin 3-inch strips
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 4 cups broccoli florets
  • 1 small onion, cut into wedges
  • 1cup reduced sodium soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground ginger
  • hot cooked rice


  1. In a bowl, combine 2 tablespoons cornstarch, 2 tablespoons water and garlic powder until smooth.
  2. Add beef and toss.
  3. In a large skillet or wok over medium high heat, stir-fry beef in 1 tablespoon oil until beef reaches desired doneness; remove and keep warm.
  4. Stir-fry broccoli and onion in remaining oil for 4-5 minutes.
  5. Return beef to pan.
  6. Combine soy sauce, brown sugar, ginger and remaining cornstarch and water until smooth; add to the pan.
  7. Cook and stir for 2 minutes.

  1. A variation – make a marinade of 1 tablespoon soy sauce, 1 tablespoon Chinese rice cooking wine, 1 teaspoon sesame oil, 1 teaspoon corn starch. Marinate the steak strips for 20 minutes. Discard the marinade, as it is quite salty.
    Clean the wok prior to step 4.
    After stir frying, omit step 6 and instead stir in 1 tablespoon oyster sauce.
    Put your steak in the freezer for about 20 minutes before slicing; makes cutting into thin strips much easier.
