A young woman who reached out to an older lady with a simple gesture has shown the world the difference a little kindness can make.

Brooke Ochoa, described the incident on Facebook:

“Today I went to eat at a restaurant for lunch and I saw this elderly lady coming from afar so I waited to hold the door for her, she was very thankful and sweet.

“She then told the waitress, ‘table for one’, so I waited and hesitated but then I walked over and said, ‘I’m eating by myself too would you like to have lunch together?’ She was ecstatic!

“Come to find out she spent the last decade living with her mom who recently passed away and her aunt who recently was put into a nursing home, so she has been having a hard time being alone.

“We had a wonderful talk, and she just kept smiling and saying thank you for listening to me, which made me smile too!

“Her words healed my heart just as much as I healed her lonely one. By far the best decision I’ve made all year!!! Her name is Delores, and we will be having lunch every Thursday from now on.”

  2. Remember one day many, many years ago when I was young and brash, I had newly blown into Perth for work and was heading into the city for a look around on an Easter Sunday. I had bought a box full of little chocolate eggs and offered one to everyone on the bus…saying ” have a lovely Easter”, one well dressed elderly lady began to cry and said “it’s been many years since anyone has given me an Easter Egg”, spoke to her ’till her stop and she left me with the parting words ” Australia needs more people like you”. Still think of that day 40 years later.

  3. We all NEED each other through life, and it doesn’t take much effort to be kind to one another….just DO it….and be happy…
