That’s one strong grandma!

After all the chocolates we ate over Easter we could really use some fitness inspiration and this 78-year-old has definitely provided it!

In the space of two years Shirley Webb went from mowing the lawn for fitness to deadlifting over 100kgs.

She decided to join Club Fitness in her hometown of Illinois with her granddaughter to get some more exercise than just mowing, “That’s about the only exercise I ever got,” Webb told ESPN.

Before joining the gym she needed help to get up off the floor and couldn’t climb up stairs without using the hand rail. But now she can easily do both!

Her trainer, John Wright, told ESPN it only took Webb six months of training before she was able to lift above 90kgs and she is now a regular at the gym attending at least twice a week.

“She’s gotten to the point where everybody greets her and is just absolutely impressed,” Wright said. “She inspires everybody that goes to the gym and it’s fun to see that.”

She lives across the border of Illinois and Missouri and now holds two records, one for lifting 107kgs in Illinois and the other for lifting 97kgs in Missouri. In June she hopes to set the American record, which ESPN claims should be achievable as there is no national record for her age group.

“I have no intention of stopping right now” the soon-to-be 79-year old says, “When I go to the gym and work out, when I leave, I feel so much better than I did when I went in, and I just feel so good. I feel tremendous.”

Here is video posted to Instagram of Webb lifting 102kgs.

What do you do for exercise?
