Kathy was sitting on the beach building a sandcastle with her granddaughter.

As the waves rolled in, Kathy looked at her granddaughter and could see the little girl was pondering something.

“What’s wrong, honey?” she asked.

“I’m wondering about why the water is so salty?” the little girl asked.

Kathy was taken aback “I’m not sure,” she said. “I think it might have something to do with evaporation and the rivers,” Kathy guessed.

“No, I don’t think that’s it, grandma,” she said concentrating.

“Why do you think it is then, honey?” Kathy asked.

“I think the sea is salty because the beach never waves back,” she said matter of factly.

Many beachgoers could hear Kathy’s howls of laughter over the water.

Jim was sitting in the kitchen having a cuppa when his grandson came into the room. His grandson, Michael, has been playing with his imaginary friend Ben. Jim wanted to play along.

Jim smiles as he said “Hi Michael. Is that Ben with you?”

“No, grandpa, this is Darren. I don’t play with Ben anymore,” Michael said.

“Oh,” said Jim stunned. “What happened to Ben?”

“It was really sad, grandpa. Ben died,” Michael said glumly.

Well, this took a depressing turn, thought Jim. He tried to soldier on “That’s terrible, Michael. Are you ok?”

“I’m fine. Ben was stung by a bee,” Michael said.

“Oh,” Jim said. “Was he allergic to bees?”

“Allergic? No. He was a tightrope walker, and there wasn’t a net.”

Jim snorted his cuppa out his nose.

What’s the funniest thing you’ve ever heard come out of a child’s mouth?
