This short eulogy to Common Sense has been shared with us by a member of the community.  We’re sure you can add to it with satire and seriousness.

It is certainly shareable and worth a smile.   Add your examples of when you think common sense died.

Common Sense lost ground when parents attacked teachers for doing the job that they themselves had failed to do in disciplining their unruly children.

It declined even further when schools were required to get parental consent to administer sun lotion or an aspirin to a student; but could not inform parents when a student became pregnant and wanted to have an abortion.

Common Sense lost the will to live as the churches became businesses; and criminals received better treatment than their victims.

Common Sense took a beating when you couldn’t defend yourself from a burglar in your own home and the burglar could sue you for assault.

Common Sense finally gave up the will to live, after a woman failed to realize that a steaming cup of coffee was hot. She spilled a little in her lap, and was promptly awarded a huge settlement.

Common Sense was preceded in death,
-by his parents, Truth and Trust,
-by his wife, Discretion,
-by his daughter, Responsibility,
-and by his son, Reason.

He is survived by his 5 stepbrothers;
– I Know My Rights
– I Want It Now
– Someone Else Is To Blame
– I’m A Victim
– Pay me for Doing Nothing

Not many attended his funeral because so few realized he was gone.

Share this with your friends today and let’s talk about when you saw common sense die!

One such eg is if you touch a child inappropriately ,you will get caught& then THEY are too sick to travel.cowards.
If you drive very fast result is you may die,if you use your mobile phone, you will get fined of 300.00, this is off the subject but no rego sticker will mean you probably forget as we age and the fine is $600 why take the sticker that supports the system that always worked to get the money in the coffers?😂😂😂
So street speeding been replaced by mobile phone fines, then by rego runs out.$600. Common sense in real action,WHY take away sticker?

There has always been this saying that common sense is not that common, and it cannot be taught because we all live different lives and have different ways of looking at things. I always get surprised at the lack of common sense in many people and with various situations I too lacked in common sense, I guess it depends on where and how you have learnt lessons in life, what is obvious to some is not to everyone. I have come to the conclusion no one person knows everything.

  3. Judith Wedgwood

I’ve always believed that ‘common sense prevails’ & rely on my own ‘common sense’ & ‘gut feeling’ especially when no other guidance & it is usually right.

  4. Philomena Lear

What a load of crap! Far too much generalisation in this statement. In my humble opinion of course.

    • Jacqui Lee

Ah where you see generalisation I see facts, in our own town due to new rules we have lost a show, a brilliant 100 year old cook , horse shows, raffles, sausage sizzles, and many other things, in the school where we were cleaners we were forced to have working with children clearance when we never worked with children there, (common sense again, no vacuuming when children are there) by the way I didn’t write the piece just agreed with most of it, unless you live under a rock you would see children have been banned from taking fruit in a couple of schools recently add that to the list of not allowed to’s not allowed to play on swings, not allowed to run, not allowed to eat peanut butter sandwiches, can’t have a dressing applied at school. Perhaps your school days were full of rules, mine just wanted us to behave and actually learn something.

  5. Gabriele Gentry

Lack of common sense today is a real problem. We are over-analyzing, over sensitive to the risk of litigation, over cautious and creating unrealstic expectations. I see this particularly in the generations younger than me and I am in my sixties. Crazy world now. Need to get back to the way it was when common sense prevailed and we a

    • Lyn Bradford

It’s not just the younger generation, look at the amount of older men & women being sucked in by love rats & loosing all their money, & the amount of older people falling for scams ( and we are old enough to know better)
