It’s not every day you see the Queen mingling with commoners in a private setting, but Her Majesty was more than happy to share a pint with Scottish pub-goers recently. In fact, she even had a meal and a cocktail!

Imagine the patrons’ shock when none other than the Queen of England walked into the quaint Sheep Heid Inn in Edinburgh last Friday. She was clearly famished and thirsty, and it has been reported by the Mirror she and her entourage ordered two portions of the £16.50 portion of lamb, a fillet of seabass, a martini and half a bottle of wine.

The pub is said to be Scotland’s oldest and is a short drive from Holyrood Palace where the Queen stayed on her visit.

Apparently, staff were given just an hour’s notice to prepare for the royal visit, and no doubt were frantic about how they could best prepare the meal fit for a literal Queen.

She sat in the public dining area by a window, reports the Edinburgh Evening News.

A worker said: “I’ve been sworn to secrecy unfortunately and have no idea how her visit got out there”.

Councillor Alex Lunn told the paper: “The Sheep Heid Inn is something the local community are very proud of and a visit from the Queen is another string to add to its bow.

“I eat there regularly so I’m sure Her Majesty enjoyed an excellent meal”.

The Queen has had a busy few months with her 90th birthday celebrations taking place across Britain, as well as today’s important event – the swearing in of new UK PM Theresa May.

Tell us, what would you say if the Queen came to your local pub?

I would just sit and chat as though she was a family member. After all, l, as a kid growing up in Australia, everyone loved the royal family. There wasnt any of the rubbish/selfishness about them back then as there is now. Those were the second world war days and her father was a brilliant man “the King” who taught her how to accept anyone and everyone no matter where they were from. Do I have respect for her? My oath!

Yes so right. I must admit though that William and Kate are just like her. They have made the royal family worth watching again.

I really wish reporters would remember that they are talking about The Queen of Britain . She is the Queen of Scotland and of Wales and Northen Ireland as well as England .

  5. Robyn Jefferson

It was on her bucket list.

  6. Our Queen and her husband are such down to Earth people. No airs and graces, which a lot of the World leaders could take a lesson from. After all we are all born the same way. She and the Duke love to get out and mix with their people, and the secrecy was so they could have their meal peacefully. Bless Her Majesty and her Consort. It has been a pleasure to have been under your rule for the last 60 plus years, may we have many more.

come to New Zealand Your Majesty and we will make you very welcome at our local too. when we had Prince Charles her in Feilding a few years ago, it was the 14th November, his birthday. he stopeed to talk to me and I wished him a very happy birthday. I told him it was my eldest Daughters birthday as well. He said to me ” goodness me, there are a lot of people who have their birthday on the 14th November, I wonder why that is” so I cheekily told him, Sir, that’s easy because it’s exactly 9 month’s after Valentines day. he roared with laughter, and said he’d remember that and talk to his Mother.
