Should the gossip mags leave Bindi alone and let her be a teenager? 9

Ever since 18-year-old Bindi Irwin won the US version of Dancing With the Stars, the daughter of the late Steve Irwin has faced intense media interest. She was no stranger to the spotlight but it seems gossip magazines have caught wind of her relationship with an American wakeboarder and have since spread rumour after rumour about her relationship status.

At such a young age, Bindi is already having to fend off rumours she either engaged or has eloped, and now her publicist has come out strongly denying any wedding bells. But should they really have to? This is a young woman who is barely 18 and is already being married off in the media!

Woman’s Day magazine said the boyfriend of the Dancing With The Stars winner was reportedly shopping for a ring – “He’s been saving up since the start of the year,” a source told the publication.

However reps for Bindi have rejected the story as “highly sensationalised”.

“This is a false and highly sensationalised claim that has no truth to it whatsoever,” a spokesperson for Australia Zoo told the Daily Mail Online.

Bindi herself has dismissed the gossip before, making light of the situation.

‘It was so funny, I got back [to Australia] and I was doing something and someone said “wow, you got married!” and I was like “Umm, sorry, what?”,’ she laughed, reports the Daily Mail.

‘So it is really interesting – I think that’s a long way off and I’m just really happy and just enjoying every day that I have with him and just enjoying being young, so it’s great,’ Bindi said.

This week the bubbly teenager posted a photo of her holding an eagle, captioned “I’m grateful for each moment and the life I have been given to lead. I hope every day that I’m able to empower more individuals to stand up for what they believe in, and change the world. We have one planet, one chance, to create a beautiful future, for those yet to walk in our footsteps”.

And last week she wondered if she was making her father proud – we can all agree she most definitely is and she should be free to be herself and make her own choices out of the limelight.

What do you think? Do you think this sort of scrutiny could be damaging to a young girl?

I love you. I hope I'm making you proud.

  1. these so called truthful magazines give me the horrors, They have those great headlines on the front cover that mean nothing just all b….sh…t and they have been doing the same to this lovely girl. She is not allowed to be normal they will not have it. For gods sake leave her alone to be in her own life as she chooses to live it without your infernal meddling and lies. I stopped buying these magazines , they used to be Australian with really good ideas and stories now they are just sensationalized trash.

    • Womans day and other Magazies of this ilk are today colourised versions of the old Truth newspaper ( Good for cutting into squares and put in the dunny) Full of innuendo and misinformation in order to get people to buy them.

  2. If you believe those trashy magazines, Leyton and Bec have broken up about fifty times, Kate and Will’s marriage is on the rocks, Princess Mary is heading back to Australia (alone) to have her next child – it goes on……! I would NEVER buy these publications.

  3. She has put herself out there on the world stage. If she can’t take the heat she should get out of the kitchen. She is riding the wave of her fathers popularity. Maybe she just needs to be the champion of the animals and the planet and not trying to be a star of stage and screen.

    • Chez you sound a bit jealous. Bindi is a beautifully brought up teenager who is just having fun
without changing her beliefs. Let Chandler and her just enjoy each other’s company without magazines
looking for plans that are not there. Good on you Bindi.

  4. Bindi and her mother have chosen this lifestyle to keep them in the style that they want. Terri Irwin should be ashamed of herself as a mother.

    • i agree Bindi mother Terri push her daughter out into the media as a young child sense the death of Steve her father ,, i dont think Bindi had time to grieve for her father she(Terri) was in the spot light with her daughter every step Bindi;s Grand father was banished from the Zoo which he helped his son build up Terri didnt see eye to eye with him and terri kept pushing and pushing her children into the lime light for her own sake the kids home is in OZ not the USA and their father zoo he built us before Terri came along belongs to his children and both children have a great love of animals so i hope because she wants out of the zoo and return to the USA she shouldnt push to the kids to have to abandoned their home and all its worth for all to enjoy

  5. Bindi has been role modelled by her mother Terri as is well known to make money only. Being in the spotlight unfortunately Bindi will always come across all types of false innuendos. It is such a shame that Terri Irwin has ostracised Steves immediate family from contact with her family. This woman deserves no respect as a mother and her only concerns revolve around commercial gains with no respect for others including her own employees I understand.

  6. Bindi is the one that does all the publicity for money so she can expect backlash at times. I do not agree wirth what the magazines do, however, when you seek publicity like the Irwins do you can expect the bad with the good.
