Flashback: The novelty hit of 1960

This novelty song swept to number one on the Billboard charts on the 8th August in 1960 in America and held on for weeks while it went to number one in more than ten countries throughout the world.

 

Itsy Bitsy Teeny Weeny Yellow Polka Dot Bikini” tells the story of a shy girl wearing a revealing polka dot bikini at the beach. Written by Paul Vance and Lee Pockriss, it was first released in June 1960 by Brian Hyland with orchestra conducted by John Dixon.

Hyland’s version of this song is the most famous.  It has been covered and featured in so many places and by so many people it is now a socially known song to all current generations.
