The pop song, sung by trio Tony Orlando and Dawn, has sold over six million copies and initially sold over 100,000 copies in New York alone for ten consecutive days after it was released.

Numerous singers have covered the song since it’s release and a parody “tap three times” was even used in a US Senator’s sex scandal in 2007.
