What badges did you earn at Scouts or Girl Guides?

For many growing up in the 1950s, ’60s and ’70s, joining the Scouts or Girl Guides was a great way to be active, learn cool things and get away from your parents (unless, of course, they were your local guides or scouts leader!).

Learning to tie knots, make wood whistles, use a map and compass and play camp games were activities every scout learned. For Girl Guides, it was tradition to sell Girl Guide biscuits to raise money for your club, as well as going on hikes and doing outdoor cook-outs.

Most who participated in scouts or guides will agree, though, that the best things gained were the friendships you made as you worked together as a team to earn your badges. So much so that Scouts have been popular in Australia since 1908 and Girl Guides since 1920.
