An open apology to generation now… [What pisses me off]

Apr 06, 2014

I have become increasingly pinged off hearing that the biggest burden this country faces is us, the over Sixties, the Elders who built this country.  What were we thinking, doing nothing but sitting on our hands, spending every penny we earned, planning how we could burden the future?   So…

For working from age 15 or younger and paying taxes all those years, I apologise;

For using those taxes to raise the standard of living of this nation,  I apologise;

For allowing my taxes to be used to build roads, sewage works, dams, electricity stations, and other necessary infrastructure, I apologise;

For fostering the belief in your right to attend University based on your ability and not a gender quota, I apologise;

For believing future generations would respect their Elders, I apologise;

For having the temerity to use the health system established through my taxes, I apologise;

For not appreciating baby bonuses, housing grants, maternity/paternity leave and free or highly subsidised childcare are part of your inalienable rights, I apologise;

For assuming a small percentage of the taxes I paid over 45 or more years, might be returned to me as a pension, I apologise;

For thinking my taxes should be invested towards a strong economy, I apologise;

For being related to a person who fought for the freedom we enjoy in this country, I apologise;

For not appreciating how much of a burden we Elders would be to you, I apologise;

For these and all the past sins of the baby boomers, the Elders, against the future generations and the nation, I wholeheartedly apologise.

Any apologies my Starts at Sixty community would like to add?
