The casting for this Lucille Ball biopic couldn’t be more perfect

Amazon has just secured the rights to a biopic based on the life of Lucille Ball, which is to be produced by Ball and Desi Arnaz’s children, and the casting is just superb. 

Acclaimed Aussie actress Cate Blanchett is to play the beloved comedy actress, who you will remember from her iconic television series’ I Love Lucy, The Lucy-Desi Comedy Hour, The Lucy Show, Here’s Lucy, and Life with Lucy. 

If you take a look at pictures of both actresses, you can see why Blanchett is the perfect fit for the roll.

On Twitter, people were raving about the excellent casting choice. 

“I know good and well I can’t be the first and only person to ever think of Cate Blanchett as Lucille Ball?!?” wrote one user. 

“Usually, I’d be really defensive on who portrays legends in biopics, but Cate Blanchett is perfect for playing Lucille Ball!” said another. 

“Cate Blanchett playing Lucille Ball? I’m already excited.”

Ball won four Emmy’s over her career, and was nominated a whopping 13 times. She also won the Golden Globes Cecil B. DeMille award in 1979.

She was married to actor Desi Arnaz for 20 years, from 1940 to 1960, and the pair had two children together, Lucie Arnaz and Desi Arnaz Jr. 

Ball passed away in 1989 at the age of 77 following a second aortic rupture in the abdominal area after surgery for a dissecting aortic aneurysm the previous week. 

Cate Blanchett has had an incredibly successful acting career, pulling off difficult roles and never failing to impress. She’s taken out a swathe of industry awards, including two Oscars and three Golden Globes.

There’s little doubt she will bring Lucy back to life on the screen!
