Channel Nine weather presenter Stevie Jacobs has split from his wife Rose, after seven years of marriage.

The Daily Telegraph’s Confidential reports multiple sources have confirmed the couple separated last year despite moving to Vanuatu to try to save their relationship.

“They’ve grown in different directions and want different things in life now,” a friend of the pair’s told the newspaper.

“Steve and Rosie had such a public image of the perfect happy family but behind the scenes there were struggles that would put strain on even the best marriage.”

Stevie announced in 2016 he was leaving his post as the Today show’s weather presenter to spend more time with his wife and their two daughters, who he said had “given up so much for me to follow my dreams”. He added: “It is now time for me to be there for them.”

He later announced he would join Weekend Today as its roaming weatherman.

The couple soon moved to Vanuatu, with Rose explaining at the time their busy work schedules and “toxic life” in Sydney made them both unhappy and stressed.

“I knew it wasn’t me,” she wrote in an opinion piece for Kidspot. “I knew it wasn’t my kids or my husband. It was our environment. I also knew we would never be perfectly happy people without our human issues but I figured the idea of staying in this toxic life was far worse than giving anything else at least a shot.”

She said they made the decision to after they realised their girls were “obsessed with iPads, sugar, any type of ‘Frozen’ paraphernalia” and preferred to stay indoors watching TV. Realising that this wasn’t the life they wanted for their family, they packed up for Vanuatu, after a work vacation saw them “fall in love with the people and the pace” of the islands.

Despite the isolation from their friends and families, and the long work commute back to Australia, Rose wrote that “none of those reasons were big enough compared to the misery we felt in our current life”.

The couple has documented much of their life online since moving to the pristine island nation, with photos showing the family relaxing on yachts and lapping up the tropical surroundings. However, it appears it wasn’t enough to make the marriage last, with a second source telling Confidential the separation has been “a long time coming”.

The pair will reportedly remain in Vanuatu for the short term to accomodate their daughters’ schooling.
