‘A very special moment’: Richard Gere, 69, and wife share baby news

Hollywood actor Richard Gere is preparing to become a father again at 69 with wife Alejandra.

The couple, who wed only months ago, made a special announcement on Sunday, sharing the exciting news with fans after a meeting with the Dalai Lama.

Taking to Instagram, 35-year-old Alejandra shared a beautiful photo of the Dalai Lama placing his hands on her pregnant belly and blessing their baby.

“A very special moment just a few minutes ago…Getting blessings for our precious to come…we couldn’t announce it before telling HH Dalai Lama,” the Spanish activist wrote.

This will be the first child together for the happy couple, who exchanged vows in an Indian-inspired ceremony at Gere’s ranch outside of New York back in April.

Completely in love, the Pretty Woman star said in an exclusive interview with Hello Magazine! following the wedding: “I’m the happiest man in the universe. How could I not be?

“I’m married to a beautiful woman who is smart, sensitive, committed to helping people, who’s fun, patient, who knows how to forgive, who’s a great cook — and who makes the best salads in the world!”

The expectant parents and loved-up couple met in Italy in 2014 when the actor stayed at a hotel Alejandra’s family owned.

In the couple’s interview with Hello! Alejandra revealed that Gere wooed her the old-fashioned way and sent her flowers until she agreed to date him. As if that wasn’t romantic enough, he also regularly writes songs for her.

“I feel like I’m in a true fairytale,” she told the magazine. “Without a doubt, I feel like the luckiest woman in the world.”

Speaking about the first time they met, she said: “A friend introduced us, we looked at each other and felt a very strong connection. We couldn’t stop looking at each other all night, and since then we haven’t been apart.”

Gere was previously married to American model Cindy Crawford from 1991 to 1995 and actress Carole Lowell from 2002 to 2016, with whom he shares his 18-year-old son, Hunter. Alejandra has a five-year-old son from a previous marriage.
