Choosing the right home and car insurance providers to suit your needs can be a difficult decision with a host of competitors on the market, but fear not as a new survey has revealed which ones should be on your radar.

National comparison website Mozo has done the hard work for Australians, surveying over 3,600 people across the country in the 10th annual Mozo’s People Choice Awards.

A total of 53 home insurance companies and 48 car insurance companies were put under the spotlight with Aussies rating the providers on everything from how they felt about the customer service and claims processes to whether they’d recommended the insurer and, crucially, how much they trust them.

“When things don’t go to plan, Aussie car and homeowners want to know they can count on their insurer and many rely on word of mouth, or the opinion of those around them to decide which insurer will treat them well,” Mozo Data Services Director AJ Duncanson said.

“The Mozo People’s Choice Awards shines a light on those insurers which thousands of customers have recommended, based on things like friendly staff, a clear claims process and just a good overall experience with the company.”

In the end seven home insurers and six car insurers earned the confidence of Australians, with many providers claiming a collection of awards.

It comes as no surprise that the biggest names in the business made the top picks with the likes of Youi, APIA and NRMA ranking highly in the awards.

With more than a decade worth of insurance experience Youi was a top choice for many Australians, selected as one of the highly trusted home insurance award winners. But that wasn’t the only award won with the popular provider also gaining praise for outstanding customer satisfaction, excellent customer service, excellent claims experience and was named the most recommended. Youi was also recognised for its excellent customer service, excellent claims experience and most recommended for car insurance as well.

Also high on the list was APIA which claimed the impressive achievement of highly trusted award in both home and car insurance. This was along with outstanding customer satisfaction, excellent customer service and excellent claims experience for home and car insurance.

Meanwhile NRMA walked away with four awards for its home insurance, including outstanding customer satisfaction, excellent claims experience and most recommended.

Other favourite providers included the RAC, RACQ, RAA, RACT and RACV, Shannons and QBE.

What are your thoughts on the results of the survey? Which insurance provider do you deal with?
