On this date in 1962, this song was number 1 on the Billboard Charts and was a hit around the world. It has been translated into many foreign languages, with some versions even recorded by the artist himself.

A short song at just 2 minutes 16 seconds, it featured backing vocals by female group The Cookies, and has since been covered by Gloria Estefan, The Four Seasons, Carole King and The Partridge Family.

This up-tempo song was re-recorded as a ballad by the same singer in 1975 but was not quite as popular as the original, though it did make it into the Billboard Top Ten alongside the original – only the second time in history this had occurred.

Do you know what this classic is?
