An ironic and sad story has emerged from the US, following the death of Dr Henry S Lodge at the age of 58.

Dr Lodge was famous for writing a popular series of books called Younger Next Year.

The New York Times reports that the doctor died of prostate cancer last week.

Ironically, he told the US News & World Report back in 2006 that “awful things” such as strokes and heart attacks amongst people in their 50s and 60s were caused by lifestyle choice.

” Very little of it was related to luck or genetics,” he said.

Dr Lodge’s books were described as “a near cult item among some baby boomers”, selling millions of copies after they were released in 2004.

In an article in Parade magazine in 2006, the New York Times reports Dr Lodge said that most ageing was “just the dry rot” we put into our bodies as a result of “sedentary living, junk food and stress”.

“Yes, we do have to get old, and ultimately we do have to die. But our bodies are designed to age slowly and remarkably well,” he said.

“Most of what we see and fear is decay, and decay is only one choice. Growth is the other.”

He’s survived by his partner, two daughters, two step-sons and his brothers and sisters.

It just goes to show, sometimes no matter how healthy you try to live your life, when you’re time is up – it’s up.

Have you ever read Dr Lodge’s books? Did you know a super healthy person who died far too early?
