One of the biggest bands of all time is being sued for ‘stealing’ a hit song

The 1991 U2 album Achtung Baby is arguably one of their best, it was the album that many said changed the sound of U2 and helped them become the icons they are today. Now, a UK songwriter is claiming that one of the biggest hits from the band’s album, The Fly, was ripped off from his work.

Paul Rose is suing every member of U2 and Island Records for over $5million as he believes they ripped off his song Nae Slappin that he sent to the label in 1989.  Mr Rose stated in his court documents that listeners “would reasonably find that the songs are substantially similar”.  He also stated that the songs are too “strikingly similar” that it would have been impossible for U2 to create it on their own.

What do you think?  Here is the original demo song that was supplied by Mr Rose.

And here is the U2 hit The Fly.

No comment has been made by Mr Rose at this time as to why he waited almost 26 years to make a claim.

Do you think that U2 may have lifted parts of the song or do you think they don’t sound anything alike?  Let us know in the comments down below.  We always love to know what you think about the stories we cover.
