‘My heart is broken’: Daughter’s moving plea after mum’s ashes stolen

Grieving for a parent is difficult enough, but one daughter had her heart broken all over again when callous thieves broke into her home and swiped the urn containing her late mother’s ashes.

Andrea Lohmar revealed that her late mother’s home in Melbourne, Victoria, had been broken into in a pleading Facebook post on Friday, and shared a photograph of the golden urn which contains the remains of her mum.

The devastated woman asked people to share the post far and wide in a bid to recover the sentimental item and begged anyone who may find the dumped urn to contact her, before revealing it had been taken by a disgruntled family member.

“Tonight my mum’s house in Noble Park North was broken into and the urn containing her ashes were stolen. It is exactly the same as the one in the picture. If you find this urn dumped please contact me,” she wrote.

“Please share this post far and wide, I need to bring my mum’s ashes home! My heart is utterly broken.”

Lohmar’s post has already been shared more than 2,000 times and almost 300 people have left comments of support on her Facebook page, branding those responsible as “scumbags” to which she replied saying that she was aware who had taken it.

“I actually know who stole her,” she added, confirming that she had notified police.”It was a disgruntled family member!”

She arrived home on Thursday evening to find that the front door to the property had been kicked in and said she would do “anything to get her back home”.

Speaking to 7 News, she said: “I noticed that the bag with mum’s jewellery had been moved and then I noticed that the urn was missing from behind the jewellery.

“My first words were ‘mum has gone, where’s mum gone?  It was her final wish to be in an urn and to be in her home and not be out in the cemetery.

“It’s of no use or no value to anyone else, but it’s everything to me.”
