Is Malcolm Turnbull trying Trump tactics?

It has been a big week for Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull.  First, he made the groundbreaking announcement that the Federal Government is getting rid of the 457 visas that allowed temporary workers to come and work in Australia.

Later in the week, Mr Turnbull announced that there would be a revamping of the Australian Citizenship test to put a bigger focus on “Australian values.” He has also had some stern words for China and the North Korean governments before his meeting with US Vice-President Mike Pence.

These latest moves have many wondering if The Turnbull Government is taking pages out of the playbook of US President Donald Trump.  Mr Turnbull has even uttered a familiar slogan saying “Australia First.”

In a video released on Facebook, the Prime Minister says, “Australia is the most successful multicultural society in the world”. He adds, “We do not define our national identity by race or religion, but by a commitment to shared Australian values.

“Those Australian values define us. Australian values unite us.

“Freedom. Parliamentary democracy. The rule of law. Mutual respect. The equality of men and women and a fair go. The opportunity to get ahead, but lend a hand to those who fall behind.

“Our reforms will put these values at the heart of our citizenship requirements. Membership of our Australian family is a privilege and it should be afforded to those who support our values, respect our laws and want to integrate and contribute to an even better Australia.”

It sounds familiar as many point out that it sounds more like Donald Trump than Malcolm Turnbull that first took office.

What do you think?  Do you think that Mr Turnbull is using some Trump tactics or is listening to the people?
