Chuck Barris, host of the Gong Show, has died at age 87.

Chuck Barris was perhaps best known as the host of the Gong Show.

However he had many more career titles to his name.

Chuck created shows like The Dating Game and The Newlywed Game.

He also wrote a number of books, including Who Killed Art Deco and The Big Question.

His autobiography, Confessions of a Dangerous Mind, was made into a film directed by George Clooney and starred Sam Rockwell and Drew Barrymore.

In the book (subtitled An Unauthorized Autobiography), he claimed to have worked for the CIA as an assassin during the 1960s and ’70s, a claim which the CIA denied.

Chuck was also a songwriter and wrote music for his game shows as well as songs such as Palisades Park which was recorded by Freddy Cannon.

It hit No 3 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.

Here he is pictured, second from left, working as a producer on The Dating Game with host Jim Lange and dancers Ellen Friedman and Anita Mann.

His publicist confirmed Chuck, aged 87, died on Tuesday of natural causes.
