Legendary guitarist Carlos Santana faced a medical emergency on Tuesday night, July 5, while performing a show in Michigan.

The 74-year-old musician says he was “overtaken by heat exhaustion and dehydration” during the concert when he passed out.

As reported by TMZ, Santana was already a handful of songs into his set when the rocker sat down in front of a drum kit and collapsed during his performance of Joy.

Images and videos shared on social media show medical staffers treating Santana on stage, before the rocker waves to the audience as he is wheeled away.

The Smooth musician’s manager, Michael Vrionis, says the famed guitarist was transported to the emergency department at the McLaren Clarkston hospital for observation and is on the mend.

Santana took to Facebook early Wednesday, July 6, to share a statement thanking “one and all” for their “precious prayers” after news of his collapse sparked an outpouring of concern on social media.

Santana performed alongside fellow music icons Earth, Wind, and Fire at the venue as part of his Miraculous Supernatural 2022 Tour, a series of shows scheduled to promote his newest studio album Blessings and Miracles, which was released last year.

Santana’s health scare comes after the musician had an “unscheduled heart procedure” last December, forcing him to cancel a number of his Las Vagas shows.

In a video message posted on Twitter, the Grammy winner addressed the situation and explained to his fans that he underwent the procedure after experiencing chest issues.

“There have been rumours flying around here and there about this and that, so I’m here to just crystalize and make it clear,” Santana said in the video at the time.

“Last Saturday, I had an incident where I asked my wife, Cindy, to take me to the hospital ’cause I had this thing happening in my chest.”

He continued, “So when we went there, we found out that I needed to take care of it. So I am, and I’m going to be taking time off for a little bit to make sure I replenish, and I rest and I catch up with my health so that when I play for you, I will play the way I’m used to and give you 150 per cent.”

“I wouldn’t show up unless I could do that,” Santana assured his fans.

Since his operation, Santana has performed in each one of his rescheduled January before kicking off his tour in March.
