Battle of the appliances: The best buys

Coffee lovers will be chuffed with these results.

Making your own flat white while still donning your bathrobe has never been easier as the prevalence of home coffee machines continues to rise.

And there’s even better news on the horizon – you don’t need to mortgage the house in order to buy yourself a good one.

Australia’s best home appliances were recently revealed by customer satisfaction researchers Canstar Blue and (drum roll, please) economically priced products fared better than some of their more expensive rivals.

At the top of the list in terms of getting the most bang for your buck is Aldi’s Expressi coffee machine.

The capsule machine retails for just $79.99 and tied overall with Nespresso whose similar machines are more than double the price, and in some instances, more than 10 times as expensive.

Nespresso’s Essenza Mini retails for $159 and then there’s the Lattisma Pro which goes for a whopping $899 – in light of Canstar Blue’s findings, you’ve got to wonder why anyone would pay nearly $900 for a capsule coffee machine but, each to their own.

Nescafe’s Dolce Gusto machines came out on top in terms of overall customer satisfaction.

Starting at just $99, that’s far less to pay than the average $287 Aussies spend on espresso coffee machines with $35 a month in capsules tacked on top.

Thousands of customers were asked by Canstar Blue to report their experiences with home appliances.

Brands were rated on ease of use and cleaning, reliability, value for money, and overall satisfaction.

Taste was also a deciding factor when it came to reporting on coffee machines.

Australian brand Simpson, which is known for providing some of the cheapest clothes dryers on the market, beat out New Zealand brand Fisher & Paykel, and Bosch, receiving five-star reviews for reliability, drying time and overall customer satisfaction.

Nutri Ninjas triumphed over NutriBullet overall in the blender category but Russell Hobbs topped them both for value for money.

Other winners included: Samsung (televisions), Panasonic (air-conditioners) and Miele who topped out in three categories: vacuum cleaners, front loader washing machines and dishwashers.
