The Commonwealth Seniors Health Card won’t be cut says Abbott

Mar 09, 2014

Despite the Commission of Audit flagging that the Government needs to do something about the Commonwealth Seniors Health Card which allows self funded retirees to access cheap, subsidised medicines and health care, Tony Abbott has declared today that there will be no changes to the scheme.

In his South Australian Campaign Launch today in Adelaide, the prime minister said the government would stick to its “crystal clear” election commitment to index the income threshold for the health care card, which would boost the number of people eligible for the benefit, not decrease it.

“Yes we will repair the budget … but we will do it in ways which are absolutely consistent with the commitments we took to the people before the election,” Mr Abbott told a throng of  media.

“We made a clear commitment on the commonwealth Seniors Health Care Card during the election and we’ll keep the commitment.”
