I wish…

I wish I could give a one-off donation, without being hounded for the rest of my life.

I choose to give regularly to causes which I think are worthwhile, but from time to time, I like to give a donation in response to a particular situation.

For example, I gave a one-off donation to a charity which helps the blind after having my cataracts removed and new lenses put in.

But now I keep getting requests for more donations.

And when our second grandson was born, he spent his first couple of weeks in Westmead Children’s Hospital and received great care from staff there.

I couldn’t help sending them a donation.

After this, they began sending me their mail-outs, but when we moved house and I wanted to redirect our mail, the hospital had a place on the form to indicate that you were a one-time donor and did not wish to keep getting their material.

I wish other organisations would recognise that there are people who wish to give once, but are not in a position to do so regularly.

What is your opinion?
