Disgraceful! Craig Thompson to appeal his sentence…

It’s been a long time in the making but finally, disgraced former Labor MP Craig Thompson has been jailed for three months for defrauding the Health Services Union (HSU) of more than $24,000.

Today he received a 12-month sentence with nine months suspended. He is going to launch an immediate appeal against the sentence.

Front and centre of the allegations include claims Thomson, while head of the HSU, used members funds to pay for prostitutes, X-rated films, travel for his wife and other personal items.

He was found guilty last month of 65 dishonesty charges, despite initially being charged with 170 offences. His continued public denials of the allegations, however, were harder to prove in court.

Thompson’s impassioned appeal in parliament will be in most minds today,  as we recall the crocodile tears, the scathing attack on the media, the blame game! It’s enough to bring one’s blood to boiling point. His lies were so blatant and so constant; he obviously believed them to be the truth.

Well now it’s time to take the wrap Thompson! You’ve shown no remorse for your antics (aside from your lame cry-baby attempt in parliament to appeal to the masses, which nobody bought because we are not morons!), so suck it up and do your time.

Three months…what’s that anyway? Not quite long enough for us to forget about you unfortunately, or for the people you stole from like our nurses, care workers and aged care staff. Shame on you!

Thompson’s wife Zoe has stood by her husband throughout the entire sordid and cringe-worthy ordeal. In court, she described him as a devoted family man who is sorry for causing hurt. She’s a better woman than me!
