Close your eyes. Think about that feeling you get when you go on holidays. You check in to your accommodation, open the door to your apartment, step in, look around and instantly feel happy, relaxed, rested, calm and stress-free.

There is something to be said for “everything in its place”. You feel a sense of calm. The great news is you don’t have to wait until you take a holiday to feel like this.

Organise and declutter the spaces in your home to have the same “holiday feeling” every day. Not to mention, no more wasting precious time looking for things that aren’t where they should be. Find a place for your things, organise, declutter and love your home.

So let’s get started. Here’s my seven step guide to having your house clutter free and your mind calm… Give it a go this weekend and see how much better you feel for it!
1. Pick a room
2. Visualise and write down how you would like this space to look and make you feel. This can be your space plan. Be sure to take into account all family members.
3. Sort through all items in the room. If this is the lounge, and you have all your DVD’s/CD’s stored in a cabinet or bookcase, you will need to take everything out.
4. Keep only the items you need for the room in the room to function as per your space plan.
5. Remove the items that do not belong. This will become obvious once you have decided what you are keeping.
6. Find a home for the items you are “taking out” of the room. If there is currently not a designated space in the home you will need to make one if you intend to keep the item. If it’s an item you have not used in a long time, say over 6 months, and no longer need, discard. Throw away, give away, sell or donate.
7. Move on to the next room!

It’s that simple! A happy home is a happy mind so you can always feel at peace knowing your home is clutter free and comfortable with this guide.
