Seniors film festival coming to a big screen near you

Don't miss the Seniors Film Festival.

If it has been a while since you have headed to watch something on the big screen, now is your chance.

There is a film festival screening all over Australia designed for film lovers aged 60 and over.

Called Young at Heart, the festival showcases a range of movies from restored classics to Australian premieres.

Looking for Infinity: El Camino, Neruda, Sophie and the Rising Sun, and This Beautiful Fantastic are on the program.

Even if you haven’t heard of all of the movies, you will recognise some of the stars.

The Secret Scripture stars Rooney Mara, Eric Bana and Vanessa Redgrave, while Bill Nighy joins the cast of Their Finest.

Sam Neill features in Tommy’s Honour while Gillian Anderson and Hugh Bonneville are in Viceroy’s House, one of the two movies to be shown for the first time in the country.

The other premiere, Whitely, explores the Australian artists life and legacy.

Land of Mine, which was nominated for best foreign language film in the 2017 Academy Awards will have a restricted screening.

Old favorites include 4K restorations of The Lion in Winter with Katherine Hepburn and Anthony Hopkins, The Tales of Hoffman and The Third Man with Orson Welles round out the list.

The festival ambassador is Lynette Curran who started her career with roles in Bellbird, Alvin Purple and The Year My Voice Broke.

More recently Lynette has worked on Rake, Cleverman and Always Greener, as well as on stage with Pride and Prejudice and The Crucible, just to name a few.

The event started on April 3 and continues to April 26.

Movies are showing in Palace Cinemas in Sydney, Melbourne, Canberra, Brisbane and Adelaide, with tickets starting from $7.
