Revealed at last: the lost stories of F. Scott Fitzgerald

Apr 28, 2017

I’d Die for You and Other Lost Stories is a collection of the last remaining unpublished short stories by F. Scott Fitzgerald, iconic author of The Great Gatsby and Tender Is the Night

All 18 short fictions collected here were lost in one sense or another: physically lost, coming to light only recently; lost in the turbulence of Fitzgerald’s later life; lost to readers because his editors sometimes did not understand what he was trying to write.

Edited by Anne Margaret Daniel, these fascinating stories offer a new insight into the arc of Fitzgerald’s career and demonstrate his stylistic agility and imaginative power as a writer at the forefront of Modern literature.

Ironically, F. Scott Fitzgerald is more widely read today than ever and this collection is the last of his remaining unpublished short stories. They were not designed by the author as a collection.

Most were submitted individually to major magazines during the 1930s and accepted for publication during Fitzgerald’s lifetime, but were never printed. Some are unfilmed movie scenarios and they date from the earliest days of Fitzgerald’s career to the last. They come from various sources, from libraries to private collections, including those of Fitzgerald’s family.

Written in his characteristically beautiful, sharp, and surprising language, exploring themes both familiar and fresh, these stories provide new insight into the bold and uncompromising arc of Fitzgerald’s career. I’d Die For You is a revealing, intimate look at Fitzgerald’s creative process that shows him to be a writer working at the forefront of modern literature.
