May 23, 2014

Beatles hero Paul McCartney has been hospitalised with an illness brought about by a virus and has cancelled his South Korea tour as well as his Japanese one.

Details on the illness are scarce, but in a statement issued by Hyundai Card Co. Ltd, one of the organisers of the South Korean concert, McCartney said: “I was really looking forward to visiting and playing in South Korea for the first time and I’m sorry to be letting fans down” adding “I’m very disappointed by this and hope to be able to visit soon.”

McCartney and Ringo Starr are the only Beatles left after John Lennon was famously shot in 1980 by obsessive Mark Chapman and George Harrison died from lung cancer in 2001.

McCartney turns 72 years old next month. He had cancelled four concerts in Japan recently, due to the illness, and this South Korea tour was to be his first in the country. He is set to tour the US later on this year.
