Trend predictions for 2017 that you will really wear

fashion for over 60's

The problem with fashion when you are age sixty and over is not the choices, colours or styles.

It is because most of it has been done before.

Depending on your relationships with the fashion the first time you may not want to do it again.

Take the bodysuit for example, which is currently filling boutiques the country over.

Anyone who battled through these in the 90’s knows the troubles with press-studs and negotiating toilet trips wearing them.

So what are some of the trend predictions for 2017 that you will actually want to wear again?

Patterns and prints were big on the fashion scene during the People’s Choice Awards earlier this year. Bold prints took centre stage for many of the celebs with some misses but mostly hits. Approach prints with caution, and select pieces that accentuate your figure. Got great legs? Print pants are for you. A print top in the right cut will work well on most figures, teamed with the right plain skirt or pants.

Along that theme, stripes are expected to be one of the big fashion pieces of the year. The good thing with stripes is they can be worn casual or formal. The bad thing is that wide horizontal stripe can make you appear wider so stick to the thinner striped styles.

If you are looking at the style of fashion, forget the corset look. Keep that for under your outfit. But if you prefer to say no thanks to Spanks, you will be happy to know that flowing styles are back. Flowing dresses, billowing or bell sleeves, loose coats and wider fit tops are in. To prevent the baggy and frumpy effect make sure you accentuate a key colour, which gives style and a focus for the eye.

Colours of the season include lots of pastels, which can bring a softer feel to the patterns and prints of the season.

Like a singlet or cami, or strappy dress but don’t want to show off so much skin? A plain shirt or t-shirt underneath is not only on trend but also covers up where needed.

As with any piece of clothing, ignore the size and wear what fits you best. Sometimes you may need to go up a size to get an outfit to sit right. For tops and dresses it is best to be a little looser than too tight and causing extra bulges where you don’t want them. If you are normally a 12 and don’t want to buy a size 14, do it anyway then cut off the tag when you get home and forget about it.

For pants the opposite applies. As long as you can do it up they are fine. They will tend to stretch anyway. Buy them with a waist height that suits your figure. High-waisted might be better for those with a tummy.

Art Deco is the word when it comes to accessories. Earrings or a brooch; they are simple ways to modernise a basic outfit. One stand out piece is all you need.

When it comes to footwear heels are getting lower, not higher. Even better, if you prefer the comfort of a sneaker or sandshow, they are definitely in. Bling them up as much as you like!

If none of these fashions inspire you, just remember…. you know better than anyone who are you and what style suits you, because you have already been there and done that!

Use your years of fashion experience to embrace who you are and wear what ever you like with pride.
