Act your age but don’t look it; these skincare tips show you how

It pays to look after your skin, no matter your age.

As you get older your skin changes.

Wrinkles are just one of those changes.

Your skin also gets drier as oil production slows down and its starts to lose its elasticity.

All reasons why you should change your skincare regime and not just keep doing what you have always done.

Here are a few tips to help you love the skin you are in.

Drink lots of water and eat a balanced diet with lots of vegies, which all goes a long way to giving your skin a natural boost.

Continue to cleanse, tone and moisturise. However, it pays to look at the products you are using and see if they still suit your skin. A cleanser for oily skin might have worked for you in your earlier years, but not as your skin gets drier.

Exfoliate on a weekly basis. You don’t even need to use special products. A face washer and coconut oil will do the trick for your face. Use a dry skin brush to exfoliate your whole body before you shower. Don’t forget your elbows.

Avoid soaps which strip your natural oils, and look for natural cleansers instead. Even better, make some of your own skincare products so you know exactly what is in them.

Avoid hot water on your face, which strips your skin of oils. Use lukewarm water instead.

Continue to wear sunscreen and avoid sun damage. It doesn’t need to be sunny for the damage to occur. Wearing sunscreen is your best defence against brown spots, more wrinkles and skin cancer. Even if you feel like it is too late, you don’t want things to get any worse. Don’t forget your hands and neck, areas that can show your age more than anywhere.

Like the idea of Botox but scared to give it a try? Bananas are said to be able to help rejuvenate wrinkled skin. Mash up a ripe banana, add some honey to make a paste and apply it to your face and neck. Leave it on for up to 20 minutes and wash off with cold water.

You can try a few tightening masks as well. A mix of orange juice and aloe vera gel (in equal parts) blended together can be applied for your face. Leave for up to 30 minutes and then rinse off. Otherwise, try whisking up egg white and adding to a tablespoon of Greek yoghurt. Mix well and apply, leaving on your face for up to 15 minutes and rinse off with lukewarm water.

And finally, you can learn to embrace those wrinkles with a big smile. The wrinkles are just as much a part of you as anything else and a smile brightens anyone’s face.
