Seven tips for getting your car organised

Many of us spend a lot of time organising our homes so our daily lives run smoothly, everything is within reach, and our living spaces are neat and tidy and free from clutter. There are whole tutorials devoted to decluttering and organising, but there’s one space that gets forgotten. The car. 

Has your car become the junk room? The place where all the empty water bottles, food wrappers, grocery green bags, and various bottles of hand-sanitiser, wet wipes, and air freshener go to die? Then these tips are for you!

There’s no denying we need a lot of the “stuff” in our cars, but there’s no reason it can’t be organised. 

1. Shoe organisers

They’re great for shoes, but they’re also great for lots of other things! Hang them over the back of your car seats, and you can store all sorts of things in there.

2. Your centre console

This is the part that collects all the little bits and pieces. A hair-clip, some loose coins, your phone charger, an odd earring. Organise it by adding some small containers. An icy-pole mould can work well, offering you little compartments for all the bits and bobs.

3. Cupcake moulds

A weird thing to have in your car, but if you pop individual silicone cupcake moulds into your cup holders, you will be able to use them for things like spare change. They also stop all the dirt and grime and spilled drinks running down into that unreachable space below!

4. Carabiner clips

These are cheap, and you can use them to clip to the headrest of your car seats to hold your handbag, umbrella, and shopping. This keeps them from spilling all over the floor!

5. Tissue boxes

Not just for tissues! Keep your empty tissue boxes and use them to hold your plastic bags. They also make great car bins – you can stuff your receipts and rubbish into them, and the plastic on top stops it from all falling out. simply throw out all at once when it’s full.

6. Plastic tubs in the boot

Use crates, washing baskets, or large tubs to hold your green bags in the boot, and also your groceries. It stops them rolling around and makes them easier to take inside when you get home, too.

7. Cotton bud containers

These are great for small items in your glove box! Make a little first aid kit of essentials, or use them for parking metre change.
