Barnaby Joyce’s ex-wife Natalie was left heartbroken by his high-profile affair with former staffer Vikki Campion, and has received plenty of support following the betrayal from Aussies right across the country in recent months.

However, not everyone believes the finger should be pointed at both parties.

Controversial comedian Catherine Deveny has sparked outrage once again by defending Campion over the betrayal in a shocking tweet, before accusing Natalie of “internalised misogyny”.

It came hours after the heartbroken former wife of Joyce finally broke her silence in an exclusive interview with Women’s Weekly, revealing the deep hurt she and her daughters have experienced in the wake of the scandal.

Responding to the article, Deveny wrote on Twitter: “Why the f*** is Natalie Joyce blaming Vikki Campion? Natalie was not having a relationship with Vikki, she was having a relationship with Barnaby. Barnaby betrayed her, Vikki did nothing to her and owed her nothing. Simple case of internalised misogyny.”

Unsurprisingly, it sparked an angry response from social media users, with one commenting: “Yup, everything is about internalised misogyny. Ridiculous comment. Takes two to tango.”

Another added: “You’re not right in the head.”

However, another user agreed with her, writing: “It takes people a while to disentangle from decades of ‘loving’ relationship and work out who the real culprit is. But I hear ya.”

It comes after Natalie slammed her former husband and Vikki for accepting an estimated $150,000 for the Channel 7 interview recently, and called the segment “an absolute disgrace”.

“I wasn’t surprised she sold their ‘exclusive’ story, and certainly not surprised the $150,000 went to her child, but it begs the question, if Barney agreed to be a part of it, how could he allow his four girls to be overlooked?” she told Women’s Weekly.

“In saying that, I wouldn’t want a cent of that money. It was all we could do to watch it without throwing a brick at the TV!”

According to the magazine, Natalie blames Vikki for destroying her family and says she stole her life. Natalie was not paid for her interview with the publication and says she spoke out to set the record straight and defend her family name for the sake of her four daughters Bridgette, 21, Julia, 20, Caroline, 18, and Odette, 15.

“I’m normally a very private person but I knew I had to find my voice. They thought I would lie down, but this time I couldn’t,” she said.

“I’m doing this so the girls feel empowered, and know their mum stood up and defended our fine name.”

News of the former Nationals leader’s affair with his ex-staffer broke in February, when a photo of Vikki six months pregnant was splashed across the front page of the Daily Telegraph with the headline, “bundle of Joyce”. They have since welcomed a son together.

It’s not the first time Deveny has rocked the boat with her tweets. Just last month, she trolled Meghan Markle in a series of cruel messages.

Deveny initially called out the 36-year-old for accepting her father-in-law’s offer to accompany her down the aisle in the absence of her own father, Thomas Markle, who was forced to miss the wedding due to ill health.

The comedian implied that the duchess’s choice to be escorted by a male means she cannot be a feminist, despite entering the chapel and walking halfway down the aisle unaccompanied.

She wrote: “Meghan Markle : I am a feminist… Also Meghan Markle : My father can’t walk me down the aisle and give me away so I have to have some man do it because I can’t possibly walk down on my own so my boyfriend’s father is going to do it.”

That came after Deveny posted a series of tweets on Anzac Day earlier this year that labelled soldiers and veterans as “ignorant” and “uneducated”.

She also dubbed the annual remembrance day “Bogan Halloween” and claimed military service is “just a job”.

Deveny wrote: “Why do people in the armed forces use the word ‘serve’ to describe their work despite it being no more dangerous or prone to upheaval than many other jobs? It’s just a job and work.

“Throw the term ‘serve’ in the bin. It’s part of the fetishisation of war and violence.”
