Let’s chat: The revolution 25 years ago

Connected-world

What were you doing right now 25 years ago?

Working? Making dinner for the family? Driving kids home from after school sport and activities?

Well, that point in time might seem like a very distant memory, but 25 years ago marks something incredibly special for Australia… It’s the day we got the Internet!

On June 24 in 1989, Australia received it’s first internet ‘ping’ as the University of Melbourne received the first transmission from Hawaii.

Professor Justin Zobel from the University of Melbourne’s department of computing and information systems told the Sunshine Coast Daily that Australia’s total download amount per day was 4MB back then… For those of us who aren’t tech-heads that is less than attaching a photo to an email!

In the last 25 years so many things have happened and many of them are thanks to the Internet.

So tonight, let’s chat! How did the Internet change your life? How often do you use it? What else has happened in the last 25 years? Share your memories of the first time you were introduced to the internet here tonight…
