Ivanka takes ‘unprecedented’ role in government

Many were wondering about reports earlier this week about US President Donald Trump’s daughter Ivanka taking office in the White House when she held no position.

The White House has answered the questions by issuing a statement making Ivanka an official employee of the US Government.  She will serve as the assistant to the President.  They said in a statement that the White House is “pleased that Ivanka Trump has chosen to take this step in her unprecedented role as First Daughter in support of the President.”

The official statement was also the chance to Ivanka to answer the press’ questions.  She stated, “I have heard the concerns some have with my advising the president in my personal capacity while voluntarily complying with all ethics rules and I will instead serve as an unpaid employee in the White House Office, subject to all of the same rules as other federal employees”.  She continued, “Throughout this process, I have been working closely and in good faith with the White House Counsel and my personal counsel to address the unprecedented nature of my role.”

Ivanka’s husband, Jared Kushner, has also taken a new role with the US Government. His role will be to attempt to solve government issues with business based solutions.

This marks the first time that children of the President have worked in an official role since Jimmy Roosevelt worked as deputy staff secretary President Franklin D. Roosevelt in late 1930s.

What do you think of the appointment?  Do you think that these roles show nepotism in the White House or do you believe that the roles are genuine?
