Get the cork out of a wine bottle without a corkscrew

We’ve all had that moment where we’ve bought a lovely bottle of red, only to be caught without a corkscrew to open it with! When you really just want to relax with a big glass of wine, it’s pretty devastating. 

Fortunately, there’s a hack to get you into that bottle in no time, and it doesn’t involve carrying around a pocket knife, door-knocking your neighbourhood,  or going to a shop to buy a corkscrew. The only thing you need is your bottle of wine, a common item that you carry everywhere anyway, and a little bit of elbow grease. The effort will make the reward all the sweeter!

All you will need is your house key (or any key, but the house key is one that everyone usually has with them. 

Simple take your key and push it into the cork at a 45 degree angle, Keep pushing until the the key is mostly inserted into the cork. Now start twisting, pulling up on the cork as you do. Like opening a bottle of champagne, it’s best to rotate the bottle rather than twisting the key, as you don’t want to break the cork. Gradually coax the cork out of the bottle, pour yourself a nice big glass and relax!
