Raising the pension age: A poem…

Nov 22, 2013

Have you read the statements from the Productivity Commission discussing the potential raise of the pension age to 70? Here is a very well written poem by Val, a Starts at Sixty and active over 60 community member, sharing her thoughts on this very serious issue.

Mooted government changes

‘Ouch’ that is the operative word

For what I’ve read today,

People in the work force

‘Til their seventieth birthday!

Do the government think that all

Can fill those working roles?

There’s many considerations

Before this idea’s ‘sold’.

Many have painful joint problems

They creak when they move about,

And for some there’s lessened brain power

And they can’t work things out.

It might help if they’ve a family firm

Where they can spend those extra years,

Betwixt aged and more aged

Without copious tears.

Because in the usual work place

Many might be shunned,

By young and vibrant people

Whose lives have just begun.

And once upon a time

Owning your own home brought content,

But now there’s talk of equity

The government wants a percent.

So far changes are in the pipeline

Lets’s hope common sense wins through,

And the government thinks things over

And leaves us in peace – As is our due!
