Poets Corner: Toothless grin

Jun 26, 2013

Barb Dwyer from our community has submitted this poem.

Busy morning, all in a dither
Rushing to and fro, hither and thither
Jumped in the car and checked my bag
I’m quite organized but don’t want to brag
Wallet, tissues, keys and phone
Got to the shops, my teeth are at home
I don’t have a full set of dentures mind
Just a partial plate but I’d left it behind
I’m a happy person but I couldn’t smile
Hoped nobody wanted to chat for a while
Up and down aisles, saw no-one I knew
Got to the checkout and joined the queue
My turn and the girl said “How are you”
Well…….how embarrassing!!
Put my hand over my mouth and started to laugh
Had a feeling she thought I was a bit daft
Told her what happened so she would know
I’m not really strange it just appears so
Then she started laughing as well
With me or at me I just couldn’t tell
Well, I felt good that I’d made someones day
Driving home I laughed all the way
So if you’re out shopping and happen to see
A lady with gaps where her teeth ought to be
Just smile and say “Hi”
‘Cause it’s probably me
