Decadent chocolate and orange mousse

A delicious dessert treat!

This sweet and zesty dish is an incredible mixture of two flavours that work so well together. Not only is it something a bit different to serve up for your guests, but it’s also a great way to experiment with new and delicious flavours that will leave your guests wanting more.

It’s best served fresh out of the refrigerator and can be prepared in just five minutes before leaving to set. Try this dish as a tasty, gourmet dessert with an optional topping of cream or a side of plain ice cream to really get your guests excited!

Ingredients

  • 200g dark chocolate, chopped, plus extra to serve
  • 2 oranges, rind finely grated, juiced
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 eggs, separated
  • 300ml thickened cream
  • 2 tbsp brown sugar
  • 2 tsp orange zest, to garnish

Method

  1. In a medium heatproof bowl add chocolate, orange juice and vanilla. Place over a saucepan of simmering water without letting the bottom touch the water. Stir for 3 minutes. Make sure mixture is smooth. Remove from heat. Leave to cool for 20 minutes. Stir in egg yolks.
  2. With an electric mixer, beat cream in a mixing bowl until soft peaks form. Fold in cream to chocolate mixture.
  3. In another bowl, beat egg whites and sugar in a bowl until thick and glossy. Fold gently into chocolate mixture. Divide into 6 x 3/4 cup  serving glasses. Place in refrigerator to chill for 2 hours.
  4. Top with sprinkles of left over dark chocolate and orange zest. Serve chilled.
