Veteran actress Moya O’Sullivan dies age 91

Neighbours legend Moya O’Sullivan has died at the age of 91, it has just emerged.

The veteran actress was best known for her role as Marlene Kratz in the long-running soap opera, having played the grandmother for three years from 1984. The Sun cited a statement from Neighbours’ executive producer Jason Herbison, who called Moya a “legend of the Australian film and television industry” and “Australia’s favourite mum and grandmother”.

“Everyone at Neighbours has fond memories of her and we are saddened to hear of her passing,” Herbison reportedly said.

O’Sullivan was last seen on Neighbours when her character headed off on a three-month cruise, although she made a comeback via videolink for Neighbours’ 20th anniversary programme in 2005, according to the Mirror. In that appearance, she assured viewers that she was still sailing the high seas.

In the meantime, Sullivan herself was busy, making appearances in Home and Away. Her most recent role was in a 2012 Channel 9 TV drama called Tricky Business, according to reports. Earlier in her career, the actress had roles in hit shows including Division 4, Matlock Police, Homicide, Cop Shop, Sons and Daughters, Hey Dad!Skippy the Bush Kangaroo, A Country Practice, Number 96, Blue Heelers and Water Rats.

The Daily Mail and other outlets reported that O’Sullivan died on January 16 and that her funeral was held in Sydney on Sunday.
