Jimmy Barnes, Marcia Hines and Casey Donovan unite in New Year concert

Some of Australia’s biggest rock legends united for an incredible New Year’s Eve concert last night, proving they’re still as popular as ever.

Jimmy Barnes, Marcia Hines and Casey Donovan joined more stars in the line-up for the ABC’s New Year’s Eve Countdown concert at Sydney Harbour Bridge.

And fans have shared their delight following the flawless performances on social media.

Barnes, 61, kicked it off with his hit ‘Khe Sanh’, as well as ‘Working Class Man’, and he belted out the classics to screams from the crowd.

A fan tweeted shortly after: “Watching @JimmyBarnes on #oneplusone @ABCTV. With respect, you are a living proof and a legend.”

He was followed shortly after by Australian Idol judge Marcia Hines, 64, who performed a flawless rendition of ‘Your Love Still Brings Me To My Knees’.

Meanwhile, Australian Idol’s Casey Donovan pulled off Tina Turner’s ‘Nutbush City Limits’ and was heavily praised by viewers at home.

One posted on Twitter: “Casey Donovan and Marcia Hines were AMAZING!!! More more more.”

And another added: “@CaseyDonovan you are killing it on @ABCTV #CountdownNYE #ladymarmalade yeeeeees queen #heavenvocals.”

While another wrote: “Marcia Hines’s voice is still so intact. ‘Your Love Still Brings Me To My Knees’ is definitive #NYEABC.”

Meanwhile a fan added: “Definitely the best new year’s show from the ABC. I usually hate it, but managed to watch it for ages! @CaseyDonovan , @KateCeberano and @JimmyBarnes were fantastic! known Aussies who can actually sing!”

Donovan also delighted kids with a children’s show performance of ‘Incy Wincy Spider’, and she retweeted a clip of it shortly after, showing her smiling along with the crowd.

The concert was presented by Charlie Pickering, but he came under fire on the night after making a controversial ‘joke’ in the final seconds.

He reportedly said: “Are you ready to count down to the magical moment, the only time it’s OK to kill a police officer… ah, kiss a police officer without asking?”

After viewers expressed shock, he has since tweeted his apologies, writing: “Thanks to everyone for watching #NYEABC tonight. Apologies for the slip of the tongue at the end. And a big shout out to all of the police keeping us safe tonight.”
