Australia has another shot at taking home the Eurovision crown and this time the hope of the nation rests on Jessica Mauboy’s shoulders.

The singer and actress was named as Australia’s 2018 representative for the kitsch competition on Monday, four years after she wowed the audience with a guest performance at Eurovision 2014 in Copenhagen, Denmark.

Mauboy told The Telegraph she’s been waiting for her chance to perform on the show again and can’t wait to take her parents along with her.

Australia has shown off its multiculturalism at Eurovision in the past, with Guy Sebastian, Dami Im and Isaiah Firebrace all representing the country.

Mauboy said she is proud to represent Australia as an Indigenous Australian.

“I think that is huge. All of the contestants have shown what Australia can offer as one of the most multicultural countries in the world,” she said.

“I think that’s why we have such a love and connection with Eurovision because we have people from almost all of the countries of the world here.”

Eurovision will take place in Lisbon, Portugal next year. Mauboy will be going head to with contestants from all over Europe, putting on their wackiest and most emotive performances for a shot at the title.

While it was once decried for its tackiness, Eurovision has enjoyed a surge in popularity in recent years and garnered a cult following.

Do you think Jess Mauboy is a good choice? Will you be cheering for her?
