Singer and global icon Cher has come to the rescue of thousands of people in a small town in Michigan, America who were in desperate need of water after it was revealed the government and been piping contaminated water to its residents.

Horrified by the idea that no one in the town could even gain access to clean drinking water, Cher decided to send more than 180,000 bottles of clean water to the town. It was revealed earlier the town had been pumping water from the Flint river in an effort to save money and revitalise the city. However, it was discovered the water contains high levels of lead when hundreds of the town’s children began to suffer from high levels of lead in their bodies.

“This is a tragedy of staggering proportion and shocking that it’s happening in the middle of our country,” Cher said in a press release, adding, “I cannot wait for the water to get there to help these people who have been poisoned.”

Cher said a Michigan Food Bank “will immediately begin the distribution process to those who need it most for drinking, cooking and washing.”

“The water will go directly to community centres, food banks and fire houses focusing in on low income housing areas.”

She even put out the call to other celebrities, asking them to help Flint in any way possible.

What do you think about Cher’s generous donation? Are you happy to see a celebrity using their wealth and fame for a good cause?

  1. Hopefully more stars donate some of their mega bucks to help out in the world

  2. Lovely gesture Cher, lets hope something permanent will be done when the bottled water runs out.

  3. That’s great, but not solving the real issue, maybe she should be using her celebrity status and getting some of her mates to pressurise the government to improve their water supply methods

    • It is a stopgap measure to solve the immediate problem, giving time for a permanent solution to be implemented. I think she did well

  4. Love Cher and her generous donation, but why the hell is this county council poisoning their own citizens. Has business blinded them to the bigger picture.
