The new lineup for the revamped Today show in 2020 has been announced.

Channel Nine confirmed on Wednesday morning Karl Stefanovic and his new co-host Allison Langdon will be joined by Perth reporter Tracy Vo in the newsreader role, former Sunday Night journalist Alex Cullen as sport presenter and Tim Davies as weather presenter.

Brooke Boney will reprise her entertainment reporter role in 2020.

As for Weekend Today, Rebecca Maddern, known for The Footy Show and Ninja Warrior Australia, will join Richard Wilkins as hosts. Meanwhile, Sylvia Jeffreys is set to return to morning television as co-host of Today Extra alongside David Campbell.

“We’ve brought together a team that Australia will love waking up with in 2020,” Director of Morning Television Steven Burling said. “As one of Perth’s most recognisable news presenters, Tracy will anchor the news bulletins; Tim has resonated with viewers presenting weather on weekends, balancing light hearted segments with the sometimes dire forecasts covering bushfires and weather disasters.

“Alex Cullen is a trusted voice on Australian television and we welcome him to TODAY, where his recent fill-in stints have won over viewers. And Brooke will continue the great work of delivering entertainment news and interviewing some of the world’s biggest stars.”

Karl and Allison are taking over from Georgie Gardener and Deborah Knight. Deb will host Afternoons on 2GB and 4BC, and Georgie will present weekend news.

“Ally and Karl are quite simply two of the best news broadcasters in the country,” Steven continued. “Both have reported from conflict zones, they are more than comfortable going toe-to-toe against our most formidable politicians and quite honestly they’re who you’d turn to in times of breaking news, be it here in Australia or anywhere in the world. Importantly though, Ally and Karl also know how to have a good laugh, they both have an infectious, self-deprecating sense of humour that I believe will appeal to viewers and the rest of the on-air team.”

Last month it was confirmed that Georgie had made the decision to leave the Today show with immediate effect following Nine’s public announcement, while Deborah is set to continue in her role until the end of the year.

Following the news of Georgie and Deb’s departure, another Today star left the show as sports reporter Tony Jones announced that he was taking a step back from his hectic work schedule on the same day that Gardner was farewelled.

Later in the same week, Today Extra’s Sonia Kruger revealed she had also made the decision to say goodbye to the network, having since confirmed that she is returning to Channel Seven.
