Naming a baby is one of the most exciting times in a parent’s life, but one mother has cancelled her own baby shower and hit out at friends and family who couldn’t accept the unusual name she’d chosen for her unborn son.

In a Facebook post that has been shared on internet forum Reddit, the woman penned a lengthy post to people who couldn’t accept that she was naming her son Squire Sebastian Senator. The woman – whose identity is not known – informed guests of her baby shower that they’d receive a text message if they were invited for a smaller and more inclusive party.

She said she was forced to take such drastic action after people were talking trash about her unborn child.

“How can you judge an unborn child?” she asked. “What is wrong with you?”

The woman claimed her friends and family have treated her unfairly since discovering the baby would be called Squire Sebastian Senator and said people had spread lies and rumours about her son.

“No, I am not crazy,” she vented. “No, I am not mentally unstable. No, I was not drunk when I named my child.”

She insisted no one could force her to change the baby’s name and that all three names actually made up his first name.

“This is how it will be. He will not be allowed to have a nickname, he is to be called by his full and complete first name,” the mother-to-be continued.”

She explained that squires and senators played an important role in her family tree and said the name she picked for her son is conveyed with power, wealth and success.

“My baby’s name WILL be a revolution,” she continued. “It will push people to question everything.”

The woman claimed names like Joshua, Brian, Sam, Nick, Mark, Bella and Marina were boring and insisted those who made fun of Squire Sebastian Senator’s name wouldn’t be part of his life.

The post attracted a lot of attention, mainly from people who agreed with the woman’s family and friends when it came to the name.

“No one’s talking sh** about your unborn baby,” one person said. “They’re talking sh** about your poor naming choices.”

Another comment read: “That should be considered child abuse.”

A third added: “Oh poor woman. It isn’t your child being judged…It’s you.”

It comes after baby website Baby Centre released its top predictions for baby names in 2019.

Popular names from the 1970s including Brian, Barry, Patricia, Cliff, Christine and Susan are set to make a comeback, while a number of parents will turn to popular culture for inspiration for their baby’s name.

For example, this year’s Peter Rabbit film has seen the name Peter, Beatrix (after the name of the author of the books) and Jemima (after character Jemima Puddle-Duck) increase in popularity, while Ryder, Chase, Marshall and Rocky from children’s cartoon Paw Patrol have also inspired parents-to-be.

What are your thoughts on this? Do you think Squire Sebastian Senator is an appropriate baby name? What are your children called?
